Overload (Principles of Weight Training)
Definition
Overload is the rule that training must exceed what you are currently adapted to. If last month’s 60 kg × 8 feels easy forever, you stay at last month’s muscle.
How to apply it
Add a rep, add a small load, add a set, or slow the lowering phase — one variable at a time. Most people should use double progression (reps, then load) and a log. Pain that changes how you walk is not overload. That is a stop.
Siblings: progression, specificity, rest. Together they are the four principles.
